Blaanda Bread

   
     
 
This bread is still made in the Shetland Islands, but is similar to that made in prehistoric societies, such as Skara Brae.

10 tbl. barley meal 10 tbl. oatmeal
2 oz. butter A pinch of salt
Milk to mix

Mix the barley meal, oatmeal and salt in a bowl. Rub in the butter and then gradually add enough milk to make a firm dough. It shouldn't be sticky.

Shape it into a round flat cake and bake slowly on a griddle.
