Jason's City Found?

 
     
  It's one of the most gripping of the ancient legends, the story of how the young prince Jason left his home with a ship crewed by the greatest of heroes, in search of the Golden Fleece. The adventures of Jason and his crew, and its tragic aftermath have been told and retold, but it was assumed that he and his kingdom were mere myth.

Until now.

An article in the Greek newspaper, Ethnos, reports that excavations begun in Pagastikos Bay in 1977, may have unearthed ancient Iolkos. Iolkos, now called Volos, was the port from which the Argonauts set out on their quest. The city was at its height between the 15th and 12th centuries BC. The palace complex is thought to date from the 14th to 13th centuries BC, which would be the correct period for Jason's voyage.

Iolkos was also said to be the home of the centaur. There's no news on any remains of the horse/man creatures being discovered. Nor of any golden sheepskins. But excavations continue...
