Shannen Doherty Fired

  by Calvin Cole

According to rampant rumors late on Friday, Shannen Doherty has been fired from her role as the eldest sister on the WB TV series Charmed. Doherty played Pru Halliwell and co-starred with Holly Marie Combs and Alyssa Milano.

The show has been a hot topic of conversation lately as a semi-public feud over promotion of the show between producers and the WB came right at the crucial final weeks of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer contract situation. Next, Milano was rumored to be leaving the show, asking that her character be killed off (thus actually killing the entire premise of the program - the power of three sister witches that the world had been waiting centuries for).

Now, the rumor that Doherty has been fired (that has been neither confirmed or denied by Spelling Television - "We have nothing we can tell you right now" was their official response) has heated up phones, e-mails and instant messaging at a time when the entire industry is scrambling to get ready for the fall schedule announcements.

Doherty, long known as one of the bad girls of TV, had supposedly reformed when Charmed premiered in 1998. Spelling welcomed her back with open arms in his new series about three sister witches for the WB. The love lost between herself and the cast of her old show Beverly Hills, 90210, was not forgotten though, when she refused to be part of the finale of the long-running Spelling soap opera.
