The Mummy Beats the Knight

The Mummy Returns may have seen enthusiasm drop off 53% over its opening weekend, but that was more than enough for it beat back newcomer A Knight's Tale. The gauzy sequel clocked an impressive estimate of $32.2 million to pass the $100 million mark for the week. The Heath Ledger starrer hauled in a $17 million estimate, not bad for a movie with limited appeal given its deliberately anachronistic rock-laden approach to the swashbuckler.

Everyone else was waaaaay behind, with third place going to Bridget Jones's Diary with an estimated $4.5 million. The fourth spot was occupied by the Sylvester Stallone testosterone fest, Driven, which snagged around $3 million estimated, in what has to be a disappointing performance. Also at $3 million estimated was Along Came A Spider.

Indy flick Memento has been creeping up the standings, this week it moved up three places to number 9, with an estimated $1.2 million. Good reviews and excellent words of mouth seem to be raising awareness. Also improving was spy thriller The Tailor of Panama which jumped five places to number 10, with an estimated $800,000.
