Uh
oh. The release of the not-at-all anticipated sequel to Norman Jewison's
1975 scifi classic, Rollerball, is being delayed until early
2002, according to Variety.
MGM's new marketing boss, Bob Levin, announced that he wants to set
the film's marketing program up properly and give it the attention
it deserves. Yeah, right. Ever since an early draft of the script
surfaced on Ain't It Cool,
the buzz has been extremely negative on the futuristic Gladiator,
and with its core audience looking askance at the enterprise, MGM
will certainly have its work cut out for it.
Rollerball tells the story of a violent game created by the
corporate entity that now governs society. The game is supposed to
distract the people, while also showing the futility of individual
effort, but a single player becomes so good that he proves the opposite
is true, and the corporation must deal with him. I know, it sounds
ridiculous, but the original was pretty good (honest!). |
