Court
TV and TNT Bust NYPD

Stephen
Bochco is a happy man today. After suing 20th Century Fox Television
for selling the syndication rights to NYPD Blue to sister cabler
FX for less than the going rate, Bochco settled out of court. Part
of that settlement required that the shows be offered on the open
market again. It wasn't out there for long.
Yesterday it was announced that Court TV will be airing the show in
prime time, with TNT picking it up for the other day parts. According
to a story in today's Hollywood
Reporter, FX had been paying $400,000 per episode, but under the
new deal Court TV and TNT will be paying $700,000 for the episodes
already aired on FX and $1 million per episode for those that have
not yet aired off-net.
The lucrative deal certainly gives credence to Bochco's original complaint,
and must be heartening to David Duchovny who has a similar suit pending
over the studio's sale of The X-Files to FX.
