A
lackluster pre-summer weekend saw the Sylvester Stallone racing flick,
Driven, climb to the top of the box-office stack. The critically
panned film managed to rake in an estimated $13.1 million to win the
weekend, sending last week's winner, Bridget Jones's Diary
down to second place with a $7.5 million estimate.
There was almost a tie for thrd place with both Spy Kids and
Along Came a Spider netting around $5.7 million each, though
it looks like Spy Kids will nose ahead. Rounding out the top
five was Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles with an estimated
$4.6 million.
Newcomers had a tough time of it, with Warren Beatty's Town and
Country already inspiring comparison's to that other Beatty woofer,
Ishtar. The big-budget, three-years-in-the-making comedy only
managed to take in about $3.05 million for seventh place. Teen vampire
flick, The Forsaken, took in a disappointing $3 million estimate,
though its per-screen average was higher than Town and Country's.
The big loser for the weekend, however, was One Night at McCool's.
The heavily promoted Liv Tyler/Matt Dillon sex farce only made an
estimated $2 million, and failed to break into the top ten. |
