TV has always struggled with the day period when the trials are
closed – what the rest of the industry refers to as “prime time”.
For the most part, they’ve been reduced to running oooold woman-as-victim
flicks. But tonight they take on some new territory with a TV
version of a Broadway play that focuses on the stories of people
who have been wrongly convicted.
Given the
number of death row inmates who have been proved innocent through
DNA, you’d think that popular opinion would be moving away from
the death penalty. But, no. Most death penalty proponents continue
to think that “justice” is a synonym for “vengeance”. (It isn’t.)
And cling to the idea that it should be swift, rather than sure.
Benjamin
Franklin once said that it was better that a hundred guilty men
go free than that a single innocent man be hanged.
Worth thinking
about.
8:00pm
Smallville – WB – A girl with the ability to
teleport is released from Belle Reve asylum and tracks down Clark.
She convinces him that she is reformed, but begins using red kryptonite
to manipulate Clark’s feelings for her. Is it me, or do his friends
and family always seem really slow on the uptake when the red
kryptonite surfaces?
9:00pm
Point Pleasant – FOX – Christina keeps having
nasty dreams, and doing bad things. But she’s not the only one
with secrets, as the truth about Point Pleasant’s dark past begins
to come out.
The Exonerated – COURT – A television version
of the off-Broadway play that told the stories of six people who
served time for crimes they didn’t commit. Stars Brian Dennehy,
Susan Sarandon, Aidan Quin, Delroy Lindo and Danny Glover bring
the heartbreaking tales to life.
Larva – SCIFI – Rachel Hunter and William Forsythe
star in this Sci-Fi Channel flick about ferocious mutating parasites.
Make sure you’ve had your dinner first.
10:00pm
Without A Trace – CBS – Elizabeth Berkley (remember
her?) plays the winner of an extreme makeover contest who vanishes.
Art imitating life, perhaps?
