TV Tonight:
Friday, September 6th

  by Noah Ruderman

Law & Order: SVU (NBC)If you've seen any of filmmaker Robert Rodriguez's violent-filled earlier films, from Desparado to From Dusk Till Dawn, you'd probably never think he would become the most popular family film director working today. But with the success of last year's Spy Kids and now its sequel, Rodriguez has shown his masterful skill at creating a fantasy based world steeped in real life values. You can catch the original tonight on the movie channel.

Elsewhere, CBS attempts to get you ready for football, 60 Minutes delves into the world of pop music and Law & Order: SVU focuses on a possible cover-up at a church.

8:00pm
Countdown To Kickoff: The NFL Times Square Concert - CBS - Those who got a small taste of the NFL last night may tune in here see exactly what this new NFL "entertainment" special is all about. Although I'm certain once you realize the show features performances by both Bon Jovi and Enrique Iglesias, the majority of sane viewers will likely turn back to ESPN to continue their real preparation until Sunday.
Spy Kids - The Movie Channel - Before you shell out the big bucks for the sequel, you can watch the 2001 original and see how the magic started. Antonio Banderas and Carla Gugino are charming as the parents of the Cortez family, but it's their children played by Alexa Vega and Daryl Sabara that truly steal the show.

9:00pm
60 Minutes II: Spinning Gold - CBS - Tonight's episode deals with the elusive American quest for musical success. Dan Rather will go "on tour" with the Dixie Chicks and Charlie Rose will interview Carlos Santana. Lou Pearlman, the man responsible for N'Sync and The Backstreet Boys (and I stress the word "responsible") will also be featured.

10:00pm
Law & Order: SVU - NBC - Eric Stoltz is one of those actors who will never be a giant movie star, but anytime he appears on film or television, you can't help but watch his every move. Perhaps that's because he's such an underrated talent, or maybe he simply fills our red-haired actor void left open after David Caruso left N.Y.P.D. Blue. You can catch him here tonight guest starring as a priest who could be a murder suspect.
