| Ah,
yes…August. Do you have any idea how difficult it is to come up
with stuff that might be even worth a cursory look at this time
of year?
Tonight,
we’re reduced to a movie starring action-movie wannabes, a reality
show about Amish teens, and a doc featuring breweries as technological
marvels. (Actually, the breweries are starting to look rather
tempting.) Then, there’s a crappy scifi flick about disease-carrying
bees and the true tale of poisonous stinging things hiding in
shoes. (Which I don’t really want to think about.) And to round
this perfect evening off…a major network has apparently confused
a work of fiction with real life.
8:00pm
Bet Your Life – NBC – The winners of NBC’s Next
Action Star, Sean Carrigan and Corinne Van Ryck de Groot
(remember the good old days when Hollywood changed actors names
to something that would fit on a marquee?) get their big chance
in this never-ending chase movie. Also starring is real actor
Billy Zane as the psychopathic bad guy (is there any other kind?).
Just a stab in the dark, here; but I’m guessing this thing isn’t
going to be winning any Emmys.
Amish In The City – UPN – The housemates take
a trip to Hollywood Park for a concert. After comparing the Amish
kids to the supposedly “normal” ones, I reckon most parents will
be finding out how they can ship their offspring off to Pennsylvania
for few years of farming.
Modern Marvels: Breweries – A&E – Umm….breweries
were pretty much marvels of the Middle Ages, too. Not to mention
the ancient world.
9:00pm
Flying Virus – SCIFI – Just in case the latest
terror warnings aren’t enough to get your adrenalin pumping, here’s
a little flick about genetically altered, deadly virus-carrying
bees that get loose on a plane.
Venom ER – APL – Okay, so an old Rutger Hauer
flick probably isn’t too creepy, but how about this disturbing
little documentary series from Animal Planet? Tonight’s entry
features a kid how gets bitten by something hiding in his shoe.
Now there’s something you probably don’t want to think about too
much. (It’s always the little things!)
10:00pm
20/20 – ABC – Religious scholars and art historians discuss the
theories behind “The Da Vinci Code.” Why is it that everyone is
discussing this work of fiction as if it was history?
